The Office of Media Relations is looking for an intern to join their team!
About the Office of Media Relations:
The Port Authority's Office of Media Relations serves as the news media's point of contact for the agency and its staff for journalists such as requests to film at facilities for breaking/spot news coverage, interviews with agency staff and leadership, and requests for information on the agency's initiatives and achievements. The Office of Media Relations also develops comprehensive external communications plans to highlight the Port Authority's work keeping the NY-NJ moving through the agency's extensive portfolio of infrastructure and the multitude of talented staff required to plan and implement the agency's century-old mission.
Responsibilities:
- Answer incoming emails and/or calls from various media outlets in a timely manner and route to the appropriate staff to handle
- Research and prepare written materials on Port Authority achievements and projects as assigned
- Staff in person or support media access to film at various facilities or offsite at Port Authority-related events with stakeholders or elected officials
- Assist with compiling daily press clips, support social media content creation and maintain the team's media contact lists
- Participate in internship-long department-wide projects requiring close collaboration with other interns and staff within the agency's Communications Department, of which the Office of Media Relations is a part
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)
- Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
- Interest in public service and/or transportation
- Willingness to learn

Internship Details:
- The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
- The internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23
- This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)
- The format is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially in-person at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
- The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)
