The Human Resources department is looking for an Employee Benefits intern to join their team!



About the Employee Benefits Unit:

Benefits are a form of compensation paid by employers to employees over and above regular salary or wages. Employee benefits come in many forms and are an important part of the overall compensation package offered to employees.

Employee Benefits administers the Port Authority/PATH's benefits programs and are responsible for plan enrollment, monitoring eligibility, researching, and analyzing benefits plans, programs, policies and making recommendations. We also monitor government regulations, legislation, and benefits trends to ensure our plans are in line with guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the retirement section of the division in making improvement to the current filing process by leveraging technology, including updating of collateral material
  • Update the Retirement Portal, which will be a resource to current employees and retirees pertaining to retirement benefits and the like
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of various tasks related to Benefits Division
  • Review employee benefits related content on the employee portal (intranet) to ensure it is current
  • Make improvements to the employee portal to make it more user-friendly to the employees.
  • Support with onboarding documentation (DocuSign) and case management (Salesforce)
  • Handle data entry of employee benefits information in PeopleSoft such as address changes
  • System related matters, like handling eligibility events, closing/clean-up, entering Medicare numbers in PeopleSoft, etc.
  • Audit retirees' and their dependents' records in PeopleSoft (our ERP system) for accuracy and completeness
  • Handle benefits call center shifts, providing information to employees and retirees about different benefit plans, as needed.
  • Support Benefits Manager and Supervisor, Benefits with all ad hoc initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)
  • Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region.
  • Interest in public service and/or transportation
  • Willingness to learn

Desired

  • Experience in benefits administration
  • Experience in a customer focused environment
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar HR systems
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Keen attention to detail and a self-starter

Internship Details:

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
  • The internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23
  • This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)
  • The format is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially in-person at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
  • The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)
