About the Office of Continuous Improvement:

The Office of Continuous Improvement's mission is to collaborate with departments across the Port Authority to dramatically improve business processes and meet internal and external customer expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the identification, development, implementation, and tracking of continuous improvement initiatives across multiple Port Authority departments and facilities
  • Collecting, analyzing, and presenting data related to continuous improvement and customer experience initiatives
  • Developing resources and training to share continuous improvement methodologies with employees
  • Preparing reports or presentations based on findings from data analyses, customer surveys and/or stakeholder workshops

Past intern projects in the Office of Continuous Improvement have included:

  • Developing data dashboards to measure agency performance on priorities including bridge and tunnel tolling revenue, employee satisfaction, and vendor payment timeliness
  • Designing and implementing surveys related to customer experience at Port Authority facilities
  • Facilitating strategy development sessions and other continuous improvement workshops on topics like minority- and women-owned vendor utilization and customer communications
  • Supporting continuous improvement coaching efforts across the agency

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)
  • Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
  • Interest in public service and/or transportation
  • Willingness to learn

Desired:

  • Self-starters with excellent
  • Research, analytical, and applicable technical skills
  • Demonstrated experience working with collaborative teams and facilitating conversations with diverse groups of stakeholders
  • Ability to collect, analyze and visualize data using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar programs
  • Familiarity with workflow or process automation tools, such as Power Automate
  • Experience and interest in one or more of the following areas: Process Improvement (e.g. Agile, Lean, Scrum); Change Management; Data Analysis; Design Thinking/User Experience

Internship Details:

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
  • The internship will last 8-12 weeks
  • This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)
  • The format is expected to be hybrid, 2 days virtual and 3 days in-person at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
  • The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)
