The Chief Security Office is looking for a Finance intern to join their Resource Management & Planning team!
About the Chief Security Office and Resource Management & Planning Unit:
The mission of the Resource Management & Planning (RMP) unit, within the Chief Security Office (CSO), is to support the delivery of quality services that fulfills the Chief Security Officer's mission and Agency objectives by establishing, implementing, and monitoring resource management policies and programs for all departments reporting to the CSO. RMP empowers CSO Departments to excel by creating greater independence and objectivity in assessing projects, programs, and performance, while allowing for more consistent management of crucial information across security business areas.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with inputting budget data in the Port Authority's budget system (BudgetPro) and reconciling it after system syncs to ensure the budget system matches our Excel spreadsheets
- Attend a variety of budget meetings with the Finance team and senior-level staff to learn about the department's operation and budgeting process
- Assist with preparing overtime reports on a bi-weekly basis utilizing data from PeopleSoft and Indeavor/Workloud
- Prepare variance analyses for the budget submission and assist with analyzing the monthly financial results using data from the accounting system (SAP) and bi-weekly Public Safety overtime reports
- Assist with ad hoc projects and analyses
Qualifications
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program through the Fall 2024 semester (August 2024 or beyond)
- Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
- Interest in public service and/or transportation
- Willingness to learn
Desired:
- Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related major
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
- Ability to work both independently and in a group setting
- Excellent organizational skills
Internship Details:
- The start date will be Thursday, May 30 with an orientation that will take place at 4 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
- The internship will last 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 23
- This is a full-time internship (generally 5 days per week at 7.25 hours of work per day plus a 45-minute break)
- The format is expected to be hybrid, partially virtual and partially in-person at Port Authority Technical Center in Jersey City, NJ
- The hourly salary range is $17.20 to $28.85 (the hourly salary is determined by internship type and school year)
