Position Overview

Autodesk is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Director of Customer Communications to lead our strategic communication efforts in the realm of customer-related stories leveraging our Chief Operations Officer (COO) and related leaders. This critical role will report to the Vice President of Global Communications and will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that highlight Autodesk's global customer value in the various global industries we support including Design & Manufacturing (D&M), Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) and Media & Entertainment (M&E). This executive will be a strong people leader who can cultivate and grow the internal team while managing relationships with key executive stakeholders. To succeed, you'll be proactive, organized, professionally mature and persuasive with the ability to influence and thrive in a matrixed environment.



Responsibilities

  • Communication Expertise: 15+ years of global communications experience at major corporations. You are creative, have excellent writing skills, and have experience working with C-suite executives and top-tier media
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and lead the global customer communications strategy in collaboration with the Office of the COO. Align customer communications initiatives with Autodesk's overall brand and corporate communication goals
  • Team Leadership: Strong people leader with a consistent track record of building and developing high-performing teams. Build and manage a growing team of communication professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Customer Advocacy: Cultivate and strengthen relationships with customers to identify compelling stories and testimonials. Drive initiatives that amplify global customer success stories across various channels
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers to enhance Autodesk's reputation and thought leadership in the industry. Work closely with the media relations team to leverage customer stories for positive media opportunities. Act as a spokesperson for customer-related matters when necessary
  • Executive Communication: Work closely with the Office of the COO to understand business priorities and translate them into an impactful global COO thought leadership plan. Prepare the COO for media interactions, speaking engagements, and other internal / external activities. Craft compelling narratives and messages that align with Autodesk's overall vision and goals, ensuring consistency across internal and external communications
  • Crisis Communication: Develop and implement strategies for effective global customer communications during crisis situations. Provide guidance and support to the communications team in managing customer-related issues
  • Content Creation: Oversee the creation of engaging and impactful customer-focused content, including case studies, testimonials, and other collateral. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency in messaging and alignment with overall communication strategies
  • Measurement and Analytics: Define and measure key performance indicators for customer communications effectiveness. Utilize data-driven insights to continuously optimize and enhance customer communication strategies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field; Master's degree a bonus
  • Proven experience in a senior-level communications role, preferably with a focus on global customer communications. Experience working in a global, technology-driven company is a plus
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a high-performing team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional media relations and crisis communication expertise
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of global industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience leading teams of 10+ people including career development and performance management
  • Experience with global markets including Japan, Korea, Singapore, Germany, UK, France, Australia and India a bonus

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $193,000 and $312,290. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
