Director of Global Privacy Legal & EMEA Data Protection Officer (M10 Grade)

What you'll achieve

We are looking for an experienced Privacy attorney and manager who can lead our global team of Privacy attorneys and act as the EMEA Data Protection Officer ("DPO"). This role will fulfill the role of DPO, manage a global team of privacy lawyers and be a strategic privacy legal partner to the business and legal departments. You will play a significant role in policy and business counseling and compliance with the GDPR and other relevant international privacy laws. This role will directly report to Dell's Chief Privacy Officer.



You will:

  • Manage and lead a team of global privacy attorneys that advises leadership and stakeholders on the assessment and implementation of evolving global privacy risks and privacy regulations, and the substance, interpretation and application of international privacy laws as applied to Dell's business
  • Provide strategic vision, legal guidance and leadership on the company's global privacy strategy and compliance, including but not limited to, assessment of key regulatory risks and implementation of mitigation best practices, collaboration with regional counsel on privacy-related issues, advising the Government Affairs team on evolving international privacy laws and regulatory positions, guidance and oversight of training and communication to raise awareness on privacy obligations and responsibilities enterprise-wide, management of privacy notices, statements and communications to ensure data subjects are aware of their data protection rights
  • Act as the company's EMEA Data Protection Officer by: serving as the primary point of contact for EU regulators and other third parties for queries, complaints, incidents or regulatory investigations, advising on the substance and application of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and other regulator guidance and Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and other authority decisions, conducting assessments to ensure GDPR compliance and drawing the compliance program's attention to any potential failure to comply with applicable data protection rules
  • Manage strategic subject matter expertise and guidance on the drafting and negotiation of data privacy/protection provisions in customers and suppliers/vendors/service providers agreements and act as an escalation point in accordance with Dell's legal department's contracts approval matrix policy
  • Manage and advise on privacy investigations as privileging attorney and integrate lessons learned back into Dell's global privacy program

Essential Requirements

  • J.D. degree with admission to at least one U.S. state bar or international equivalent
  • 12+ years' expertise with global privacy laws, with at least 7+ years' expertise with privacy laws in EEA Countries
  • Deep experience with EU senior regulators, providing advisory support in regulatory matters and incident management, and providing strategic legal support to ensure privacy regulatory compliance readiness by an organization on emerging privacy laws and regulations
  • Direct or indirect experience managing teams and providing strategic direction on privacy programs
  • Personal skills: integrity, initiative, organization, perseverance, discretion, ability to assert yourself in difficult circumstances, communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, ability to build working relationships and ability to influence, interest in data protection and motivation to be a DPO

Desirable Requirements

  • DPO specific training and certification (e.g., Maastricht ECPC-B EU DPO training) and additional IAPP Privacy Certifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPP/C, CIPP/A, CIPT)
  • Strong experience within the technology sector, AdTech deployments and global data transfer management, and global cloud/multi-cloud products and services
