We are currently looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join the Authentication platform engineering team to architect, implement and support web applications that enable Arc's customers to access and use the platform. The engineer on the Authentication team is responsible for creating experiences for customers to access all the capabilities of the suite of tools Arc XP offers. You will primarily be dealing with backend applications, identity providers, and AWS infrastructure. You will partner with product owners, architects, and Arc clients to build a world-class, bleeding-edge set of applications focused on delivering multi-channel storytelling tools. You will play a crucial role with opportunities to bring your unique ideas around development practices, testing and deployment strategies to the table.

Responsibilities
  • Building secure and highly scalable backend services to support customers using the Arc platform
  • Meet our goals using technologies like AWS ECS, Lambda, Docker, CloudFormation, Grafana, Athena, DynamoDB, among others
  • Own responsibility for r--unning applications using CI/CD practices such as automated builds, deployments, and tests.
  • Setting up and reacting to production application monitoring.
  • Active participation in team agile activities such as story refinement, planning work backlog, work estimation, sprint planning, retros, demos, etc.
  • Mentor team members on software development best practices and processes
  • Set and enforce high standards for code and architectural quality
  • Be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years or more experience in software development building highly scalable customer facing applications.
  • Proficiency in at least one server-side programming language; Node, Go, Java or Python.
  • Familiarity with web service proxy components such as NGINX and AWS API Gateway.
  • Familiarity with identity management, SAML, SSO, MFA and OAUTH solutions such as Okta.
  • Familiarity with continuous-integration tools and patterns.
  • Experience with multiple database and event processing systems.
  • Experience leading large technical projects across one or more cross-functional teams.
  • Experience conducting architectural and code reviews.
  • Collaborate effectively with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to proactively identify dependencies and engage the respective leads.
  • Ability to be successful leading at a hybrid-remote company.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building web applications on AWS and/or AWS Lambda.
  • Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks.
  • Experience with DevOps teams that own the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience supporting a production application in an on-call rotation.
  • Experience analyzing application and cloud environment performance.
  • Experience working with client development teams to realize solutions on top of existing platforms.
  • Experience working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in the React JavaScript framework.
  • Experience recruiting and retaining high-quality, diverse talent
  • Experience working with self-organized agile teams
  • Experience setting goals for engineers, performing coaching for improvement, and performing structured performance evaluations.
  • Experience implementing Lean software development.

The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The salary range for this position is:
107,200.00 - 178,600.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
